GPA to Percentage Converter
Convert your GPA to an approximate percentage equivalent.
Formula
Percentage = GPA ÷ scale maximum × 100
A linear conversion: your GPA as a fraction of the scale’s maximum, expressed as a percentage. There is no single official GPA↔percentage mapping — always check the receiving institution’s policy.
Example calculation
3.50 GPA ÷ 4.0 scale × 100
= 87.50%
Assumptions
- Linear conversion method (value ÷ max × 100).
- Scale maximums: 4.0, 4.33 (with A+) or 5.0.
- This is an approximation — institutions may use band-based conversions instead.
Important notes
- WES and some universities publish their own conversion bands — use theirs for official purposes.
- Employers and applications that ask for a percentage usually accept the linear estimate unless stated otherwise.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an official GPA-to-percentage conversion?
No single official mapping exists in the US. The linear method is the common convention; some institutions (e.g. WES) publish their own bands.
What is a 3.0 GPA as a percentage?
On a 4.0 scale, 3.0 ÷ 4.0 × 100 = 75% using the linear method.
Which scale should I pick?
Use 4.0 unless your transcript states otherwise — e.g. schools with A+ grades may use 4.33.
